Moriarty's Minions
🕷️ A Professor Moriarty game — The spider at the centre of the web
"He sits motionless, like a spider in the centre of its web." Tonight that web is strung over Baker Street, and down its threads come the Professor's men: garrotters in bowler hats, masked cracksmen with bags of bombs, top-hatted lieutenants with sword-canes. You are Holmes on the pavement below, sheltering behind balconies piled with your case-books and answering with bolts of deduction. The ranks march closer with every sweep, some of them drop down on a thread to strike, Colonel Moran drifts over in a balloon with his air-gun, and every fourth web the Professor comes down himself. A classic fixed shooter, every figure painted in code.

What it does
The web and its spider
The ranks march under a great web over the rooftops. Every fourth web the Professor sits at its heart on eight long legs, head swaying from side to side as in "The Final Problem". Bring him down and he falls toward Reichenbach.
The Professor's men
Garrotters throw cards, cracksmen lob fused bombs, and lieutenants fire darts from sword-canes. Shoot one while it hangs on its thread for double points, and knock the Colonel's balloon out of the sky for a mystery bonus.
Help from Baker Street
Catch Watson's revolver for twin shots, the violin for rapid fire, and Mrs Hudson's tea for an extra life. Your case-book barricades crumble under fire, and Mrs Hudson restacks them after each duel with the Professor.
How to play
-
1
Move with ← → or A / D, or with the mouse. On a phone, drag.
-
2
Fire with Space or a click, and hold it for more. On a phone, Holmes fires while your finger is down.
-
3
Clear the web before the ranks reach the barricades, then take on the Professor.
Drawn on a plain HTML5 canvas with no libraries and no image files: every figure, the web and Baker Street itself are painted in code when the page loads. The Professor rarely appears in person, of course. He merely organises.
